My name is Lou Vives (b. 1999, Lisbon), and I am an artist based in Amsterdam. My work is often about memory and referentiality, usually in relation to art history and contemporary culture. Over the past years, I’ve been drawing, writing, and drumming. Sometimes these elements coexist, as in my Drum Poems performances or my graduation piece (Best Song Ever). Ultimately, I am trying to understand how my images and words inform one another.
In 2022, I graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (NL) and have since presented work at institutions and in contexts such as Arti et Amicitiae, Perdu, Garage Noord, and Brakke Grond (Amsterdam), as well as La Casa Encendida and Matadero (Madrid). In January 2025, I opened my first solo show, Ritmos y Poemas, at Kunsthalle Lissabon, and it felt great. Occasionally, I contribute to the art criticism platform Tangents.
